01 · Application

Application Overview

Cardiovascular catheter manufacturing includes several precision bonding steps, such as balloon bonding, hub bonding, and marker bonding. Because these products are directly related to patient safety, the process must deliver stable bond strength, repeatability, verification, and traceability.

In this application, UV spot curing is valuable not only because it is fast, but because it provides a controlled, repeatable, low-heat cure for small bond areas. Balloon bonding is especially demanding because the bond line is often circular. If UV energy is not distributed evenly around the catheter, partial cure, inconsistent bond strength, or reliability risks may occur.

02 · Challenge

Customer Challenge

Catheter components are small, delicate, and often made from different plastics with a narrow bonding process window. The adhesive must be cured quickly without adding excessive thermal stress to the catheter material.

Balloon bonding requires uniform exposure around the tube. A poorly designed single-point exposure can create shadow areas or non-uniform energy distribution.

Medical device production also requires process control. Manufacturers need to show that every line, every system, and every cure step remains within a validated process window.

03 · Solution

UV Curing Solution

OmniCure S2000 Elite provides a stable and controllable UV spot curing platform for cardiovascular catheter manufacturing. Its Closed-Loop Feedback technology helps maintain consistent UV output and reduces variation caused by lamp aging, output drift, or manual adjustment.

For circular bond lines, S2000 Elite can be paired with a Cure Ring or multi-leg light guide to deliver 360° curing around the catheter. This helps reduce shadow areas and improves cure completeness along the bond line.

When used with the R2000 Radiometer, manufacturers can calibrate output and align process settings across multiple systems and production lines.

Engineer's Note

Peak intensity alone does not define catheter cure performance. Adhesive chemistry, bond-line thickness, catheter material, exposure angle, light-guide configuration, working distance, and takt time should all be validated with the real production process.
