How to Choose the Right OmniCure S2000 Elite Lamp and Optical Filter

Standard or Surface Cure? Which band-pass filter? A practical guide to matching the OmniCure S2000 Elite lamp module (012-68000R / 012-69000R) and optical filter to your adhesive and process.

The OmniCure S2000 Elite is one of the most flexible lamp-based UV spot curing systems on the market — precisely because it is reconfigurable. You can change the lamp module and the optical band-pass filter in the field, and the system auto-detects the new configuration. That flexibility is powerful, but it also raises a practical question every process engineer eventually asks: which lamp and which filter do I actually need?

This guide walks through the decision the way we do it with customers — starting from the adhesive, not the hardware.

Step 1 — Start with your adhesive's photoinitiator

Every UV-curable adhesive cures fastest at the wavelength its photoinitiator absorbs most strongly. The manufacturer's technical data sheet will list an absorption peak (or a recommended cure wavelength) — that number is the single most important input to your lamp and filter choice.

  • Photoinitiators that absorb in the long-wave UVA / visible band (≈365–420 nm) cover the majority of one-part UV adhesives used in electronics and medical bonding.
  • Some chemistries need short-wave UV energy to overcome oxygen inhibition at the surface.

Once you know where your adhesive absorbs, the hardware choice becomes straightforward.

Step 2 — Choose the lamp module: Standard or Surface Cure

The S2000 Elite accepts two field-replaceable, plug-and-play Intelli-Lamp® modules. Both use a genuine 200 W mercury short-arc lamp; they differ in how the output spectrum is shaped.

If your parts come out of the cure fully bonded but with a slightly tacky top surface, that is the classic sign of oxygen inhibition — and the Surface Cure module is designed to solve exactly that by reshaping the power spectrum toward the short-wave UV that cures the surface layer.

Note: 012-64000R (a standard spare 200 W lamp for the S2000 and S1500) is not the same as 012-68000R (the S2000 Elite Standard Lamp Module). Always confirm your system model and part number before ordering.

Step 3 — Select the optical band-pass filter

On top of the lamp, the S2000 Elite lets you insert a selectable optical band-pass filter to narrow the output to the band your chemistry wants — cutting unwanted heat and unnecessary wavelengths.

A few rules of thumb:

  1. Match the band to the absorption peak. If your adhesive peaks at 365 nm, the 365 nm or 320–390 nm filter concentrates energy where it counts.
  2. Reduce heat on sensitive parts by cutting the visible/IR tail with a narrower band such as 365 nm.
  3. Maximize raw throughput on heat-tolerant parts with the broad 320–500 nm filter or the blank position.

The S2000 Elite auto-detects whichever filter you install and adjusts its operating parameters — but you should always recalibrate with the OmniCure R2000 radiometer after any lamp or filter change before returning to production.

Step 4 — Lock in repeatability

Selecting the right lamp and filter gets you the right spectrum. Getting the right dose, cycle after cycle, is what Closed-Loop Feedback (±5%) and R2000 calibration deliver. For validated medical and automotive processes, that repeatability is not optional — it is the reason to run an S2000 Elite in the first place.
